Research: WAN 2012 Staffing Survey
Wide Area Networks, Narrow Job Prospects
The bad news: WAN specialization is not a growth opportunity unless you work for a distributed enterprise or service provider. Only 10% of 1,391 respondents to our InformationWeek 2012 State of IT Staffing Survey say their organizations will increase staffing in WAN administration. The only specialty less popular is social media. Ouch.
The good news, if you’re already a WAN pro, is that it’s unlikely you’ll lose your job; just 4% of respondents say they plan to reduce staffing levels in this area. Still, if you’re doing WAN administration now and want to move up, it’s time to make a move. Luckily, there are projects that will place renewed emphasis on WAN administration. (R5811012)
