IT Pro Ranking: Smartphone and Tablet OSes

Nelson, Fritz | 08/11/11

Apple's IOS and Google's Android platforms have crashed the mobile enterprise party. And based on survey results from 651 business technology professionals, these smartphone and tablet OSes are wildly popular with the crowd. Meanwhile, RIM’s BlackBerry is sitting quietly in the corner, wondering why no one wants to talk anymore.

Both Apple's and Google's phones are tied for first as the best-performing platforms, according to our survey. The BlackBerry comes in a surprising fifth, as Google’s tablet and Microsoft's Windows Phone 7 ranked ahead of RIM in IT's evaluation of general criteria such as performance and cost. It’s clear from the research that your mobile strategy--including security, device management and application development--is going to have to include a mix of platforms. (R2900711)
