Research: Cisco Outlook Survey

A recent InformationWeek Cisco Outlook Survey of nearly 600 IT pros offers plenty of reasons for executives at the network equipment provider to be satisfied, but some kvetching by a vocal minority shows the company can’t get complacent.

While it’s easy to focus on the negative in this type of survey—particularly when the target is by far the biggest kid on the block—our data clearly shows that Cisco is the primary provider of networking equipment for most respondents. For over 40%, more than three-quarters of their network assets are Cisco, a share respondents expect will decline only slightly in the next two years; 98% of respondents use at least some Cisco gear, and of these, the fraction that definitely or might possibly decrease usage is barely higher (27% vs. 25%) than those expecting to increase usage. That’s pretty remarkable when you consider that, for the vast majority, Cisco gear already accounts for more than half of their network equipment fleet.

But the news isn’t all good. (R5901112)
