Buyer's Guide: Cloud Storage, Backup and Synchronization
Storage in the Sky
InformationWeek Reports invited 26 vendors to participate in a buyer's guide on cloud storage, backup and synchronization services. Thirteen providers responded to our invitation and provided a host of details on features, capabilities and pricing. Their responses are in a set of tables here.
The cloud has the potential to displace--and certainly supplement--local physical storage for data distribution and backups. Users have adopted cloud services as an alternative to local USB drives, but enterprises are also moving data online as a convenient means of building off-site data redundancy into their backup, archiving and file sharing plans.
Likewise, cloud-based file sharing services provide a great way to collaborate with colleagues outside the corporate firewall and automatically synchronize data to mobile devices, a killer feature in this era where smartphones and tablets are displacing laptops as the mobile worker’s tool of choice.
In addition to providing detailed information on cloud services from 14 vendors, this report also outlines the cloud storage landscape, breaks down the different service types and examines product features relevant to enterprise users. It also offers some recommendations for prospective buyers. (R4800412)
