Q: How often do new reports come out?
A: About two to three reports come out per week.
Q: Are all reports based on research?
A: About half of the reports we do are research based. Those reports will have green covers.
Q: What’s with the different colored report covers?
A: Green covers indicate research. Red covers are compendiums of articles on a particular topic; we call these “Alerts”. Reports with blue covers are not based on research. These are either informed CIO reports (ten or so questions to ask architects before signing a P.O.), best practices, or strategy sessions. This last report is a discussion of new technology with insights on uses and architectures from practicing IT pros.
Q: Who writes these reports?
A: The vast majority are written by IT professionals and system integrators. We believe strongly that practicing experts will have far superior insights versus the typical non-practicing analyst. Some of our reports are written by journalists. These tend to be very broad market overview reports or annual reports like our salary survey. In these cases, the report benefits from the research based approach used by reporters.
